I am an artist devoted to creating space for imagination…
My desire is to make pictures that invite people to come out and play, to dream, and imagine. I’m all about possibilities, whimsy, and adventure!
I received my BFA in Illustration from Laguna College of Art & Design in 2006, and will be receiving my MFA in Spring 2011 from California State University, Fullerton.
I am a gallery artist, children’s book writer & illustrator, muralist, and part-time college professor. I also teach workshops and accept private commissions.
In my current work, I’m combining my observations with my imagination to present an insightful and whimsical way of looking at the world. I hope to inspire other people to engage their own imagination on a daily basis, and look for the peculiarities that make life enjoyable, humorous, and sublime.
Sources of inspiration come from nature, my faith, childhood, and travels. Being outdoors, experiencing the world, then reflecting on my discoveries has always been the essence of my artistic path. My love for art has taken me on several journeys to study great masters such as Johannes Vermeer, Sandro Botticelli, Alphonse Mucha, and Gustave Klimt.
Two of my favorite quotes:
– What art offers is space – a certain breathing room for the spirit. (John Updike)
– Perhaps imagination is only intelligence having fun. (George Scialabba)
