First time graphic novel author Diana Gabaldon discusses choosing an artist and the process of creating an original story

In the video below, Diana Gabaldon discusses her graphic novel The Exile, with Del Rey Books editor-in-chief Betsy Mitchell. They talk about the process of choosing the right artist for the project, and reveal samples of Hoang Nguyen’s incredible illustrations. Gabaldon also talks about the process of creating a graphic novel, her history as a comics writer for Disney, and how the story relates to the original Outlander novel.

The Exile is an original graphic novel set in the New York Times bestselling Outlander universe. The project is the result of a collaboration between Gabaldon, who contributed the script, and artist Hoang Nguyen, who spent almost two years bringing her words to stunning life. In The Exile, Gabaldon gives readers a fresh look at the events of the original Outlander, from character Jamie Fraser’s point of view.
